Why we should support health care reform…

Posted in Affordability, DC Reform by raisingwomensvoices on May 26, 2009

Ben Furnas at the Center for American Progress wrote a piece about the basic reasons to support health care reform. The projected 70% increase in premium cost to families under employer-provided health insurance over the next nine years, gaps in coverage, and strained relationships with health care professionals and institutions are all expected outcomes of keeping the status quo of our broken system.

On a related note, Jeffrey Young (The Hill) reports on speculation voiced by Max Baucus (D-Montana, Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee) about the odds of coming through with successful health care reform. Baucus is reported as saying he is 75-80% sure of a bipartisan bill next month. Two Senate committees and three House committees need to present proposals over the next month to prepare for June talks and July floor votes.
