Republican proposals – The Patients’ Choice Act

Today in the Wall Street Journal, Janet Adamy reports on the recent proposed legislation by Republicans in Congress. Yesterday, Republicans introduced the Patients’ Choice Act, which would eliminate tax breaks provided to employers for offering their employees health insurance. The proposed act would instead give tax credits to individuals and families for health insurance bought out-of-pocket. This proposed legislation is in response to the Democratic plans for health care system reform which will push for a public health insurance plan and that will require companies to somehow offer health insurance coverage to workers. Though both parties are proponents of competition in the health care insurance market and an emphasis on prevention in health care coverage, the Democrats and Republicans seem to disagree on government size and fiscal policy… surprise, surprise.
