ICHIA moves forward to the full Senate!

Posted in Uncategorized by raisingwomensvoices on January 16, 2009

On January 15th, the Senate Finance Committee passed a version the SCHIP bill that would expand coverage to an additional 4 million children. Unlike the House bill, the proposed bill in the Senate initially lacked a provision that would eliminate the five-year waiting period for immigrants living legally in the U.S. when seeking public health benefits. However, the new bill, which passed the committee by a vote of 12-7, included an amendment that would provide states with the option of waiving the 5 year waiting period.

“Five years is a lifetime to a child”.

We now need to contact every member of the U.S. Senate to urge support for coverage of immigrant children and pregnant women!
