House Leaders Unveil Economic Stimulus Package That Includes Health IT, Medicaid Funding

On January 15th, Democrats in the House released a proposal that would allocate $20 billion to improve health information technology, and $87 billion to fund state Medicaid programs, increasing the funds used for Medicaid reimbursement by 4.8% for the upcoming fiscal years. In total, the economic stimulus proposal would yield $825 billion to various areas in addition to health care, such as education, infrastructure and tax reform. The package would also provide $8.6 billion for complete federal funding through 2010 for states to offer optional state Medicaid coverage to those that are eligible.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) announced that the House will vote on the proposal during the week of January of 26th.
