REMINDER: Sign-on: Tell the CDC to Remove the HPV Vaccine Requirement for Immigrants

Posted in Uncategorized by raisingwomensvoices on January 15, 2009

The CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) in 2007 recommended that Gardasil, the only FDA approved HPV vaccine, be administered to females ages 11 to 26 in the U.S. Though the vaccine is not mandatory for U.S. citizens, it is required for immigrants females ages 11-26. Making the HPV vaccine a mandate for immigrants places a undue burden on those families, as at a minimum, it costs $360 to receive the three-dose vaccination in addition to over $1,000 in filing fees.
Please join us in asking the CDC to retract its listing of HPV as a required vaccination for immigrants in the revised Technical Instructions to the Civil Surgeons for Vaccination Requirements.

We urge you to sign on to this letter to put pressure on the CDC to correct this unfair and burdensome requirement on immigrants. Please email Nancy Chung at NAPAWF to sign on to the attached letter: nchung@napawf.org. Please also include:

· The full name of your organization as you would like it to appear;
· Whether your organization is a state/local or national group;
· And staff contact info (name and email).
The deadline for sign-ons is COB Friday, January 16, 2009.
